Fes is one of the oldest and most cultural cities in Morocco, founded in 789 by the Idrisids. The city has a rich history marked by its role as an important centre for religion, art, and commerce.


The medina of Fes, Fes el-Bali, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is known for its narrow, winding streets and traditional crafts. It is home to the oldest university in the world, the University of Al Quaraouiyine, founded in 859 by a woman. Fes was also a significant centre for the spread of knowledge and culture, where scholars and intellectuals gathered.


The city boasts several historical monuments, such as the Attarine Madrasa, the Bou Inania Madrasa, and the Kairaouine Mosque. Additionally, Fes is famous for its tanneries, where traditional leatherworking methods are still used today
Nowadays, Fes is a major tourist destination, attracting visitors with its unique blend of ancient traditions and vibrant culture. It remains an important hub for artisanal products, such as ceramics, spices, and handmade leather goods.
